18 months and 128 bands have led us to Iron Maiden and King Diamond slugging it out to be named the Lords of the Stage. We Love Metal’s biggest tournament in history will name your favorite live band based on your votes. With thousands and thousands of votes behind us, it’s time to see who is… the ultimate victor.
The Lords of the Stage started over a year ago. Our readers started chiming in right away, and with the staggering numbers of suggestions for the best live metal band we quickly realized a 16 team tournament would not be sufficient. Metal is known for its multiple genres and subgenres, so we had to start there. First you voted for the 8 genres known for their live performances. After a series of 8 band tournaments within those genres, you voted two bands to move to the final bracket to name the Lords of the Stage.
Here is the genre mini-brackets to decide the bands:
Now all the bands have been picked and the bracket is set:
Let’s get on with the battle: King Diamond (Traditional) vs Iron Maiden (NWOBHM)
FOUNDED: King Diamond’s lineage due to King Diamond using his name sake in several projects is trickier to pinpoint. For the sake of argument we will go with the release of the band’s first recording in 1986. Iron Maiden is a little easier to track forming in 1975.
INSTRUMENTS: Both bands keep it very traditional with the foundations of metal.
FACTS: King Diamond rose to fame previously as the lead singer of legendary metal band Mercyful Fate before forming his own project. Many consider Iron Maiden along with Judas Priest to be the Founders of NWOBHM.
OPINION: The finals are here and my opinion is not needed. May the best band win.
