Favorite Live Metal Band King Diamond vs Slayer

After a year of deciding who should be in the final bracket of the Lords of the Stage Tournament we have reached the “Ferocious Four.” Two bands from every genre you thought worthy to fight it out for the crown of favorite live heavy metal band. These 4 were picked by you and now it’s time to let the genres battle it out.

The Lords of the Stage started over a year ago. Our readers started chiming in right away and with the staggering numbers of suggestions for the best live metal band we quickly realized a 16 team tournament would not be sufficient. Metal is known for its multiple genres and subgenres, so we had to start there. First you voted for the 8 genres known for their live performances. After a series of 8 band tournaments within those genres, you voted two bands to move to the final bracket to name the Lords of the Stage.

Here is the genre mini-brackets to decide the “Sadistic 16”:

Thrash BracketFolk BracketTraditional BracketDeath Bracket — Hard Rock & Post Grunge Bracket  Glam/Hair Bracket  NWOBHM Bracket  Power/Symphonic Bracket

Now all the bands have been picked and the bracket is set:

LORDS OF THE STAGE FINAL BRACKET

Let’s get on with the battle: King Diamond (Traditional) vs Slayer (Thrash)

FOUNDED: Slayer was formed in 1981. King Diamond’s lineage due to King Diamond using his name sake in several projects is trickier to pinpoint. For the sake of argument we will go with the release of the band’s first recording in 1986.

INSTRUMENTS: Both bands stick to the basics of metal. Bass, Vocals, Drums, Guitars. Although, King Diamond does have synth work.

FACTS: Slayer is a member of The Big 4 of Thrash and considered by many to be the main influence in death metal. King Diamond rose to fame previously as the lead singer of legendary metal band Mercyful Fate before forming his own project.

OPINION: Both bands have a massive following on WLM, but this may be the end of the road for King Diamond. Slayer’s fan base is loud and brash, much like thee band, so expect them to be voting in droves.
