“Okay,” Phillip said as he entered the garage, “let’s get this meeting started!”

“Umm, Phillip?” Doug started.

“Now, Beth has made some improvements to the bar so we can be comfortable getting back in there…”

“She’s put up some sheet metal over the wood so it has a more modern, hard rock feel to it.”

“Phillip?” Doug tried again.

“What?” Phillip asked, exasperated.

“Ah, Tory and Chris aren’t here.”

“Well where are they?” Phillip asked in frustration.  “I said we’d start the meeting exactly at 4pm.”

“We don’t know, Dad,” Jake said quietly.

“They were here…” Doug started to explain.  “I’m not sure where they got to…”

Just then, they heard a soft giggle and both Chris and Tory came tumbling out of the washroom off the main area.  Tory’s red hair was messed up and her lips looked swollen.  Chris had a wide grin on his face.  As Tory saw Jake, Doug and Phillip staring at them, she turned a brighter red than her hair.  Her hand flew to her face and she lowered her eyes in embarrassment.  Chris kept the wide grin.

Phillip smiled in spite of himself and sighed.  “Are we all here now?” he asked in amusement.

“I’m so sorry!” Tory gasped, still not looking up and missing the smiles around the room.  “We just, I…sorry,” she ended in a whisper.

“Alright, well as I was saying,” Phillip continued, “Beth has modernized the décor of the bar a bit and made it look more modern.  And we have put up a sign where we can advertise who is playing.  Hopefully that will help us get in the right clientele.”

“We?” Chris asked, his smile fading.

“Huh?” Phillip asked, confused.

“You said that ‘we’ have put up a sign.”

“Oh, well,” Phillip looked a bit uncomfortable.  “She was running a little short on funds and I thought the sign would really benefit us so I paid for that.”

“From your funds?” Chris asked, his eyes narrowing.

“Chris!” Tory hissed, glancing over at her new lip exercise partner.

“Well, he’s our manager and we didn’t approve the use of funds for a sign at his girlfriend’s bar so…” Chris defended.

“Yes, Chris,” Phillip said, sounding a bit frustrated.  “The funds were my personal funds.  Not from the band.  Because we don’t have funds from the band because we don’t have a regular gig yet!”

“Okay,” Chris said, backing down.

“Now, the plan is that we will play there every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night,” Phillip continued.

“What if a big opportunity comes up?” Chris challenged again.

“Of course, if there is a big opportunity like the stadium again we would go there instead,” Phillip said angrily.

“Look, Phillip, I don’t mean to be difficult, but you seem to be making some decisions with your lady friend without us lately and I just want to be sure I understand them,” Chris said, beginning to get heated himself.

“Beth has nothing to do with this!” Phillip said quietly.

“Dad,” Jake interrupted.

“What, Jake?” Phillip asked with practiced patience.

“Just talk to us.”

The whole team looked at Jake who said so little but often said what they needed to hear.  Phillip smiled a little ruefully.  “Deal,” he smiled at his son.

“So, this Thursday night is the start?” Tory asked, getting them back on track.

“It is,” Phillip smiled, “and best of all, you guys are getting paid so Tory you might be able to cut down on your shifts at the coffee shop!”

“Yes!” she shrieked, jumping up and down with joy.

Chris looked over at her hungrily.  “Let’s go celebrate,” he smiled wolfishly.

She blushed a deep red but looked back at him with equal hunger.  “Where should we go?” she asked with exaggerated innocence.

“Hey, Doug, can we borrow your van?” Chris asked impishly.

“No way, dude!  I sleep in there!” Doug said with a shudder.

“I thought maybe we should celebrate all together?” Tory smiled.

“Hey, whatever you’re into,” Chris laughed.

“Oh my God, you are a sicko!” Tory gasped.

“Let’s go out for supper as a team,” Phillip suggested, letting Tory off the hook.

“Let’s go,” Doug grinned as he jumped up out of his seat and headed for the door.  “You’re paying, Phillip!”

“Of course I am,” Phillip sighed, but he had a smile when he said it.  Maybe things were going to work out for the band.  He had a good feeling about this regular gig and the woman behind it.
