Friday Night Six Pack- Hair Metal Yummy!

Friday Night Six Pack Banner

Your boss can take his micro-managing bad breath and endless stupid ideas that are a road to nowhere and stick it under his half-priced toupee.  With your check in hand and the entire weekend to jam out, liberation has come. Floating down the highway your car just seems to find the liquor store (how does this keep happening?), and you skip down the aisle looking for the tasty suds that will wet your whistle.

Every Friday WLM is doing the same, but with the tunes. We’ll select some choice videos to accompany those cold ones. Come back each Friday and see what flavors are dancing on the tip of our tongues (I mean ears). You get the point.

Hedonism alert. All we have here is pure 80’s throwback jams. We aren’t gonna take ourselves too seriously for this batch. This is light beer, refreshing, easy to consume, not trying to change the world. So relax, remove your straight jacket, and sip on this!

Skid RowMonkey Business (Slave To The Grind)

If all you know about Skid Row is their self-titled breakthrough album (which is awesome), then you don’t know the better part of their meteoric rise to stardom.  The hardest, most bad-ass, aggressive band ever to wear the hair-metal label, this proves the point with emphatic horns.

SteelheartI’ll Never Let You Go (Steelheart)

Find a safe place to get silly and attempt to match the range of Miljenko Matijevic . Maybe you can reach that high octave, but can you sustain those lengthy notes and recover for the next? Have fun!

Slaughter- Mad About You (Stick It To Ya)

One could literally pick any song from this album and come up aces. I chose this one because it’s my wife’s favorite, and on par with any of the crooning. Plus, look at drummer Blas Elias, and know that we will never be that pretty.

Tora ToraPhantom Rider (Surprise Attack)

To this day I can’t fathom why this band didn’t become a household name. Southern rock, sweet and sultry, they can rock out with authority as well. Every summer I check to see if a reunion is underway. Maybe 2016?

Dangerous ToysScared (Dangerous Toys)

I drank more beer to this album than a human should, and this became a fall anthem for my squad way back when.

Killer DwarfsDirty Weapons (Dirty Weapons)

Just look at the cinematic greatness taking place here. Alright, it’s cheesy, but I bet your eyes didn’t leave the screen. The song was a fun, early in the night, summer jam.

Danger Danger- Naughty Naughty (

One last guilty pleasure before I return to reality. Dripping with sexual tease and shake your ass groove, this is some light beer fizz for the lightweights, but that ain’t all bad now is it?

One thing that sucks about being young: missing growing up during THIS era. I’d give anything to have grown up during the hair metal years!

It was special my friend. We had this and the thrash/speed metal movement at the same time!

Don’t forget the origins of more extreme genres with bands like Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Bathory, Venom, Voivod, Death, et. al., around.
