Heavy Metal Blog: Rob

Vince's Drummer's - Rob Reiner

Today’s heavy metal blog is about Robb Reiner. Robb is one of the true pioneers
of heavy metal in the late 70’s and a lot of drummers have used the sound
that was created by Robb back in the late 70’s and early 80’s. When they began to play, they started
before Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and helped to lay the
groundwork for these and other bands later. “Lips” and Robb played
together when they were in high school in the early 70’s and formed the
band “Anvil” a few years later. Robb has been such a big driving force in
the band and has stuck with his friend Lips all these years as well as the
band over the past year. They
are now doing great things in the rock world and getting their “due”,
finally.
Their style of music is comical and unique with such songs
as “Thumb Hang”, “Backwaxed”, “Fryin’ Cryin” and “Butter-Bust
Jerky”. I remember watching
the "Mad Dog" video on our Canadian music video station Much Music. That had a comic spin on it as
well.
Because of a manger, in their early
days, that derailed their progress and career from exploding at a crucial
time they lost out big on being part of the metal scene up until their
movie was released in January 2008.
When asked why he didn't give up over the past decades, Robb
said, "We were never going to give up, we did this because we love
it. We have a passion for music. It’s our identity. And we love doing what
we do. That’s it. So there’s no reason to give it up. Plus, give up for
what? We have fans. We have tens of thousands of fans throughout the world
who buy our records – that’s reason enough to keep going." And he always knew that one
day the majesty of Anvil would be discovered.
He
also goes on to say that "We’re going to continue doing what we’ve always
done, there’s just a whole new element now. We quit our day jobs, we don’t
work any more, we have a real manager, we have agents, we have record
companies, we have a full-blown team, the missing link that has been
missing for many years and we plan on rocking the world,
man."
I had
the pleasure of getting to see the band in action last summer in Moncton,
New Brunswick, when they opened up for AC/DC. Robb got to play his heart
out along with his band mates, of course, to 80 thousand plus people! I can only imagine what that must
have felt like. I really like the drum setup that Robb has. It was awesome to see him pound
away on that kit last summer. You can help support the band by purchasing
their new CD at http://my.tbaytel.net/~tgallo@tbaytel.net/anvil/ this will really help the guys to continue to keep playing all
those awesome shows, it will keep Robb pounding away on those awesome
drums and we can’t get enough of
