Nicko McBrain:

I think over the next few weeks I’ll be blogging about drummers and talking about the styles and types of drums the drummers use. I’ll be starting off this weeks blog with “Nicko McBrain” he is the drummer for Iron Maiden and has been since 1982.

If memory serves me correctly I’ve seen McBrain a total of 3 times of over the years, and I was amazed each time I heard him play! I’m a big fan of the Drums, I enjoy the solos that the drummers get to do at the live shows and the energy that is produced by them.

The Site “everydrummer.com”, top 50 drummers of all time Nicko rakes number 26, not to bad of a spot that’s for sure! I love that laid back style Nicko has and he surrounds himself with drums and symbols, you can’t even see him at times.

McBrain often employs the back end of his left hand drumstick to get a more aggressive Sound of the snare drum. He is able to play a variety of styles, with the time singnatures Such as the 7/8 riff which follows the second chorus of “Alexander The Great”. McBrain Uses Premier drums and Paiste symbols. He uses DW 5000 turbo single chain and a newer DW 5000 Hi-Hat stand, and Vic Firth signature drum sticks.
