TANG – Good Juice, Even Better Hardcore

November 15, 2013

2tang-albumcoverI say Hardcore, but really the band is more of a brand of the kinder Post Hardcore, although that didn’t work in the title for me, not to mention this trend of putting “post” in a genre just drives me insane. TANG was sent to me through indie label “Sober Up Records” – best label name ever! Anway, TANG’s new album “Dynamite Drug Diamond” impressed the hell out of me and I just needed to get the word out about their fresh approach to metal.

This fresh approach includes all the elements of Hardcore and Metalcore done to perfection with song structures that unhinge the listener with pace changes and heartfelt melodies. Heartfelt? Yes, heartfelt! Song after song is obviously made with a passion for music that truly talented musicians can express when recording. Post Hardcore might not be my favorite genre of music, but when artists lay their passion on the line I feel an instant connection with it.

Here’s the funny part of what I said above: I’m using words like heartfelt and passion, yet this is an album of brutal drum work and screamed vocals that will have you breaking shit in your living room. “Paint in Black” and “Run And Run And Die” are hardworking metal tracks that really do bring the fierceness you would expect.

“Dynamite Drug Diamond” really creates a paradox for me in the fact that I can hear this band giving 100% in each and every song, but at the same time the tracks are so enjoyable you get lost in the music. As a fan I love to just sit back and listen to the songs shift from different genre to different genre with relative ease. As a reviewer I feel compelled to talk about the obvious work that has gone into making a career defining moment in the hopes of finally breaking through the metal ceiling.

I guess the best thing you can do is head over to Sober Up Records (http://www.soberuprecords.com) and learn about TANG for yourself. Get in on the ground floor because “Dynamite Drug Diamond” is about to put these guys on the map and you’ll be very glad you got in before the world finds out.

Heartfelt? What was I thinking?
