Our battle of the mainstream frontman led us to this tournament. After the amazing recognition we were given from our readers for letting them pick the favorite we decided to listen to them and give them exactly what they wanted. We present to you a tournament of vocalists that do it for the heavy; or the metal; or simply the music. Out of 40 – 16 came out of the hat!

Now listen to our arguments and head over to vote. Songwriting, Stage Presence, Influences, and Potential are the categories, but ultimately you decided on your own merits who advances to the next round and who wins it all!
SONG WRITING
Orion – the songwriting of Orion and ILSA is sludge based metal, but is soaked in a barrel of angry. Every track comes across as a hungry band that is out to prove their place. Eyehategod would be very proud of Orion and his ability to move songs forward.
Iacone – everything is built around the Northern Hyperblast (very fast blast beats). The band is known for incorporating movie samples with their music and Iacone’s ability to interact with these oddities is a major part of Kataklysm’s sound.
STAGE PRESENCE
Orion – he is very aggressive and brutal in his delivery. No props are needed to get the violence across. First time concert goers are known to say he is very scary when interacting with the crowd.
Iacone – the music is so fast and aggressive that the band is a presence just by watching them play. With that said every gang needs a leader and Iacone keeps the pacing and set moving forward.
INFLUENCES
Orion – we don’t have a lot of info on the band or Orion specifically, but you can hear the likes of Asphyx, Burning Witch and for me personally lots of Electric Wizard. Those may be influences, but with the aggressive onslaught of the band you have to say they have their own sound.
Iacone – Fear Factory also falls within the Northern Hyperblast category, but considering Kataklysm has been around since 1991 you have to think they are doing the influencing.
POTENTIAL
Orion – their all-out anger and aggressiveness is unique to the scene at the moment, but there are others that are close. Orion really needs to set himself apart from the other frontmen in the genre and show what he is capable of.
Iacone – with the market being strong again, Kataklysm will never go away, but if Iacone ever wanted to; his strong death metal pipes and ability to write music that thinks outside the box makes his potential unlimited. I personally don’t think he has even touched the tip of what he is capable of.
Go vote and put your favorite through to the next round.
Metal on,
Bill
