Heavy Metal Blogs: Slayer

The legendary song from the legendary album, that’s spelled a little different. 1985 saw the debut of the single and it caused instant controversy as most felt it was about over throwing heaven. With Kerry King as one of the main song writers you have to sit back and question what it was really about. King will speak out against “the man” and I always felt this song was a testament to that mentality.

Dave Lombardo on the drums kills it on this track and drives the harmonies home letting the guitars open up and show speed like no one had ever heard in the 80s. Although this song was cited as thrash I have to think it inspired more Death Metal bands than any other track in modern metal.

I’m sure all you skin carving Slayer fans have a story to tell about “Raining Blood.” Feel free to share it. How else can you enjoy a song of this impact and magnitude; you need to bang your head with some friend.

Metal on,

Martell
