Website Change — Album Submissions

July 8, 2012
By

Hello metal fans! As you all probably know, we here at We Love Metal are always happy to hear about new artists and new albums. It’s what gets us up in the morning. For that reason we have a page dedicated to allowing musicians and fans to send us notices telling us about new albums. Many of you have been making use of this page and we thank you for sharing your knowledge and energy with us. You guys rock!

But you know who doesn’t rock? Spammers. Spammers do not rock, sir. Over the life of the website we’ve put up with a small amount of spam as just the price of running a site. And it’s a price we’re happy to pay in order to be able to talk about our favourite bands. However, these past few weeks we have been hit by an increasing amount of spam, mostly on our album submission page. Obviously we had to find a way to filter out the spambots without preventing real people from sending us the goods.

After looking at a number of solutions we have decided to implement a simple (yet hopefully effective) solution. Whenever a person sends us notice of a new metal album he or she will be asked to answer a simple math question at the bottom of the form. Something like “What’s 2 + 3?” We’re hoping the spambots will ignore or trip over the question while real people will be able to give us the answer. This seemed better than putting up garbled words and asking you to figure out what they are, or demanding people e-mail us submissions — we want to make this as painless as possible.

So please check out the submission page and let us know if you run into any problems. Is this easy enough to use, do we need to make changes? We’re always open to hearing from you!

Let me hear you!
Surdus
