Fallen Joy is a French metal band which has been on the rise for the past five years. The group actually put together Order To Die, their first EP, a few years ago, but while it was well received in Europe, the music didn’t really spread to this side of the pond until recently. You may have heard of their full length album Inner Supremacy, which was recorded last year. However, today, I want to focus on their earlier work, Order To Die, now making the rounds in North America.
The Order To Die album is quite short, weighing in at four tracks plus a brief intro track. But while there isn’t a lot there to sink our metal teeth into we are treated to fast, powerful songs which are heavy on the instrumentals. When the EP starts up we’re presented with heavy, slow beats, which quickly turn into a fast, hard pounding under a layer of rapid-fire guitar work. I liken it to getting onto a freight train to nowhere and discovering your car is filled with river dancing ghouls – epic, harsh, fast. The waves of sound come too fast to truly grasp and only let up for brief pauses between verses where we’re treated to thrilling, head banging beats.
This is one of those albums where it’s difficult to pick a favourite song. Even though there are only four full length tracks from which to choose, each of them is rich and presented with a slightly different style. The music is bold, fluid and well paced. So if you didn’t happen to hear Fallen Joy when they were working on Order To Die I recommend going back and checking it out. I’ve already listened to it twice today and looking forward to giving it another spin.
You can check out the band on their Facebook page and on MySpace.
Let me hear you!
