The Devil’s Blood: A Thousandfold Epicentre

Heavy Metal Blogs: The Devil's Blood The Thousandfold EpicentreI learned a long time ago you can’t judge a band by their album cover, and now I have learned another important lesson. You can’t judge a band by their name. As most of you know I go into an album completely cold. Meaning unless I have listened to material from the band before I have no idea what to expect when I press play. Well with The Devil’s Blood I pressed play expecting to hear some growled death metal that would highlight the apparent benefits of Satan.

I was certainly wrong on one front. This isn’t death metal. What Devil’s Blood creates is a doom style hard rock that takes you deep into the benefits of Satan. After listening to the album from cover to cover the first time I never took a single note. If a Satanic Cult needed a brainwashing soundtrack then A Thousandfold Epicentre will do the trick.

The overall feel of the album is very powerful and leaves you wondering what it is you just heard. The classic riffing and Janis Joplin style vocals take you back to a classic time of rock, but with the twist of a socially defiant subject. I didn’t want to focus on the hell, fire, and brimstone angle because it is often overdone on the metal scene. The issue is the way The Devil’s Blood comes across with their demonic flair in an intelligent manner that dare I say will teach you something. This is intelligent song writing that gives you a look at an alternative lifestyle.

To be able to write so passionately about something and still create music that kick’s ass is impressive and not something we hear in the industry much these days. The industry I’m referring to is the Nickelback dominated Hard Rock. In an age where hard rock has become about doing shots at the bar, The Devil’s Blood on A Thousandfold Epicentre show you life through the eyes of a monster, with musical skill, intelligence, and evil.
