1. Cee Lo’s “Fuck You.” Where did this idea come from and did you fear backlash from the Metal community?
JACKI: It was actually our label Deadline Cleopatra that came up with the idea to do a top 40 song. The other songs on the album are more classic rock so we felt that it would be fun and a good idea to redo something ”fresh” that’s on the radio:
I never feared any backlash from the Metal community… we like what we’ve done with the song and people out there really seem to dig it.
2. What can we expect from the new album? The last we heard it was an April 5th release, is this still the case?
JACKI: We actually just had our release party for the album, ’Reverse Tripped’, at the Whisky a Go-Go so people could by the CD their and also pre order it online. But yeah, it will be in stores on April 5th.
This is an all covers album, with great rock songs from bands that we grew up with, such as Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Zombies and of course Cee-Lo Green, which stands out from all the other songs.
More with Jacki after the warp:
3. Vains of Jenna has worked with “Jackass” in a couple of different ways. What’s it like hanging out with those guys?
JACKI: Yeah, Bam signed us back in 2006 and after that we’ve been in contact and done many different stuff together… all those guys are great… always a good time hanging with them!
4. You guys started at a very young age. Looking back was it too young to reach the success you did so young?
JACKI: Hehe yeah Nicki and me were only 18 when we first came to the U.S. and a lot of things have happened since and I think that has given us great experience. Looking back, I think it was a good thing that we did all as such young age…
5. Growing together at a young age through the years it must have made it very emotional when Lizzy decided to leave. Can you take us through the feelings of the band during this time?
JACKI: It was hard for sure… we had been so close for 5 years in a row and one was now leaving. But Lizzy didn’t want to do it anymore and Nicki, JP and me wanted to move on… lucky for us we found Jesse Forte so quick and it has been great ever since!!!
6. Jesse’s voice is a great fit for the band. How does it make the sound of Vains of Jenna different than the time with Lizzy’s voice?
JACKI: Jesse is an amazing singer! The writing process has changed and the sound. With Jesse we can do so much more with our music then before… he can sing all genres of music. So that is very exciting.
7. Glam, Hard Rock, Nu-Metal. Where would you like fans to put your music or do you guys even fit a genre?
JACKI: i would just say it’s ROCK N ROLL.
8. You have toured with a lot of major acts in your career. Do you have a personal favorite and why?
JACKI: of course the Poison and Ratt tour was amazing in 2007, playing arenas and stuff. But there has been so many great and fun memories from touring smaller places with bands in our size, like our friends from Dirty Penny. We had so much fun haha.
9. Vains of Jenna has had critical acclaim in major print media outlets from Spin to Hustler. Do you ever get used to seeing yourself in this major press?
JACKI: No i guess i don’t, it is always cool to see me or anyone else from the band in magazines etc.
10. Give us a sneak peek into the future of Vains of Jenna?
JACKI: We are going on a 2 month tour in the U.S in May and June, then we are going to continue touring everywhere, Europe, South America etc. then we are planning on releasing new material with our original songs.
11. We ask this question to everyone. Living or dead, past or present. Who would you share the stage with if you were asked to pick just one?
JACKI: Wow, that is a hard one!!! I guess i would love to jam with Keith Moon!
Show me your horns,
Martell
