Heavy Metal News Recap: April 4th

April 4, 2011

Some of today’s news stories:

VOLBEAT: “16 Dollars”, the new video from Danish metal rock ‘n’ rollers VOLBEAT, can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR_-PAWM9es&feature=player_embedded#at=15 . The song comes off the band’s latest album, “Beyond Hell/Above Heaven”, which was certified gold by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) (The Federal Association of Music Industry) for sales in excess of 100,000 copies in Germany.

More news after the warp:

EVANESCENCE: Following a three-year sabbatical after the multi-platinum, worldwide success of its sophomore effort, “The Open Door”, EVANESCENCE is going into the studio on April 11 to begin recording its third studio album with producer Nick Raskulinecz, whose recent producing credits include FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, STONE SOUR, DEFTONES and ALICE IN CHAINS.  Comments EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee: “We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on. We’ve written more than an album of songs. We’ve been finding ourselves, reinventing our sound, experimenting with things we’ve never done before and at the same time embracing the things we love most about EVANESCENCE. This journey has made us the strongest we’ve ever been as a band, and I am in love with the music. Nick Rasculinecz is the perfect fit for this record and we are all very excited to get into the studio together.”

GUNS N ROSES: Rocker Axl Rose has agreed to adhere to a lateness clause in his contract for Guns N’ Roses’ headlining slot at Brazilian festival Rock in Rio due to his reputation for tardiness.  Rock in Rio’s vice president Roberta Medina tells Brazilian magazine Epoca, “(Guns N’ Roses’ appearance was) the hardest to arrange on the history of the festival. Bands are usually on time, but Guns is a different case. Latenesses like the one in 2001… can make the public feel uncomfortable and cause them to possibly start a riot.”

TWISTED SISTER: Fallen Blue was created as a means to provide support, both emotional and financial, for the families of police officers who are killed outside the line of duty. It is with great pride that we are honored to announce that A.J. Pero has become our National Spokesperson. Mr. Pero has spent his life entertaining rock music fans as the drummer for Twisted Sister. He has also dedicated his life to helping others less fortunate with his charity work.

“My name is A.J. Pero and I play drums for the Heavy Metal Band, TWISTED SISTER. I have been asked by John and Rachael from Fallen Blue to be a part of the Brotherhood. I jumped at the opportunity. I have become the National Spokesperson for this non-profit organization called Fallen Blue. I am honored to be a part of this family, this vital organization. I will help out 150%, so we can achieve our goals. Our goals are to help the families of these brave men and women who die outside the line of duty. When a police officer is killed outside the line of duty – whether accidentally or by their own hand due to job related stress – they don’t receive the benefits. Some families can’t even afford to have a funeral, never mind future bills. I’ve experienced that years ago when a friend on the job, stressed out and emotionally fried, shot himself. Our neighborhood stood together to help the wife and children. We had benefits and cookouts to raise money, but it just wasn’t enough. This organization can and will become vital nationwide if we all recognize this is a reality and pull together our resources for all Law Enforcement Officers. Even though there are many different branches, we are all the same underneath and need to be treated as such. We would also like to eventually erect a physical Memorial where we can go and honor those killed outside the line of duty.”

Please join us in welcoming A.J. Pero to our cause, and check out http://fallenblue.org to keep up with our latest efforts to help serve those who protect us.

LAST CHANCE TO REASON: Maine’s progressive-metal masters, LAST CHANCE TO REASON, have posted a video blog documenting their dates last month with Atheist. The band previously posted footage from their Canadian dates, and are currently out with Wretched and Sons of Aurelius. The run will culminate with an appearance at New England Metal Fest on April 16th. Check out the video HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfOozp5irok.  The band’s Prosthetic debut, “Level 2,” hits the streets, next Tuesday, April 12th in North America. Pre-order for the CD, on its own, or with an exclusive shirt, is available at PROSTHETIC’s official webstore: http://store.prostheticrecords.com/index.php/bands/last-chance-to-reason

That’s the news I love,
