I Want My MTV... Back!
April 7, 2009

Sitting by the T.V. watching videos with my cassette deck beside so I could record my favorites. We all did it and had some amazing times watching music marketing in its finest form.

If you recorded the audio of MTV these days you would get eight hours of Gossip Girls and the 200 different versions of the Real World. What happened?

I remember the first time I saw Enter Sandman on MTV. I almost shit my pants. The combination of that legendary song and those images made me run out and buy the record. Just to let you know Gossip Girls hasn't caused me to buy a single thing.

Obviously downloading and the Internet have caused the music industry to take a different course, but pretty much getting rid of videos was not a good step. Making me text in to vote and charging me $.75, also not a good step.

Artists these days are making their money from live shows. I accept that, but bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest for years included elements of their videos in their stage show. Maybe if I saw a really cool video and I knew some of the imaging would be on stage… I would buy a ticket. It might be a stretch, but I think it would add extra incentive to loosen the purse strings.

I miss constant streams of videos and wish the industry could realize what a valuable tool they still could be. POWER HOUR FOREVER!

Show me your horns,
