Why Devin Why?
Because it's good that's why. I'm referring to fellow Canadian Devin Townsend and his creation the Devin Townsend Project. Devin was the creator and drug addict behind Strapping Young Lad who became very well known in the Thrash/Extreme metal scene in the 90s. The only issue Devin had with his success was his addiction to drugs and alcohol. The only solution he could find was quitting the music industry. That didn't work either.

Townsend spent two years producing records because he felt he couldn't write without drugs in his system. He realized something very important at the point, he hated producing and if he was going to be in music he had to learn to write without the influence of drugs and alcohol.

What popped up was not another version of Strapping Young Lad, but the Devin Townsend Project. Over the time that Devin decided to start writing again he wrote over 60 songs that were easily broken into four categories. An easy way to use all these songs was to make four albums with four completely different feels.

The first album Ki was an easy listening feel good album that I personally despised and never really understood, now the second album "Addicted" is came out on Nov 17 and the first track you will find off to the side or in the video section is amazing. This track with female vocals (Anneke van Giersbergen) will blow you away. It's really good and heavy and meaningful. .

The reason for the title is people are accusing Devin of selling out and making a pop album ala Chris Cornell. When I listen to this record I don't hear pop, I hear old school Heavy Metal with the Townsend perfected "Wall of Sound." Its good stuff and deserves a listen and if along the way he makes Chris Cornell money then who am I to criticize. .

The next album after addicted will be a more Black Metal type sound with the forth being a new wave modern sounding album. I think I can skip the next two and just play the hell out of Addicted. Make sure to show your support to a Canadian metal legend. .
