Anomaly Album Review:

Album Review: Anomaly

anomaly album cover

So it took Ace Frehley Chinese Democracy like time to put out his latest album Anomaly, but unlike the GNR dud this album is really good. Ace did something that few musicians actually do; he stuck to his roots and made a rock album that Ace fans will enjoy.

Starting with Outer Space the first single off the album you feel its very fitting for the former KISS member who has always had a preoccupation with the land beyond Earth. The song has a great line in it, “tired of the human race.” Don’t we all feel that way sometimes?

Other songs off the album like “Change the World” and “Pain in the Neck” take you on a great ride of guitar riffs that date back to the days of KISS solo albums, but with a very modern feel. Something I didn’t exactly expect from the Spaceman. I thought the album would be either in a new direction that didn’t fit his style or something that was dated or to old school to appeal to the modern audience. I was wrong, Ace found the balance.

Even the cover of “Fox on the Run” has a very modern sound to a classic. Its not exactly “New York Groove” funky, but it certainly has an appeal that will have it being played on many Ipods across the country.

For his longtime fans Ace even included the third and final installment of the “Fractured” series. Its exactly what you would expect and a very fitting end of a musical legacy he has become well known for.

In closing I give this album two out of two horns based solely on the fact of the guitar work and that Ace obviously wrote it for his fans.
