AC/DC - Morgan's Take
April 22, 2009
Whether it was Highway to Hell, Thunderstruck, or You Shook Me All Night Long, we all grew up dancing our asses off to it! AC/DC was formed the year I was born, 1973. Maybe that's why I've always had a connection to the band. Or, maybe it's just because it was one metal band I could love openly, and everyone else loved it with me.
There have been many changes to the band members through the years, but one of the originals who has stayed with it is my favourite, Angus Young. He was so young when the band formed that he was still in high school. The story goes that his sister suggested he wear his school uniform on stage. He did, and it became his trademark. Those knickers are wicked!
Bon Scott was the band's driver, when he ended up the lead vocalist in the 1970's. He was the traditional lead singer of a metal band, partying every night and living a wild life. Unfortunately, that wild life ended in February of 1980. He was found dead, having succumbed to alcohol poisoning.
In March of 1980, the band had to move on and hire a new lead vocalist to record their next album. Brian Johnson was hired. It was decided that they would go with all new songs, to make the break from Bon Scott's work. The first album recorded with Johnson at the helm was Back in Black (a title to reflect the loss of Bon Scott). The album was a huge success, and the rest, as they say, is history.
