Random Heavy Metal:

5 Random Radio Songs

Muse

I sat down the other day and turned on our "Hard Rock/Metal" channel and decided to do a blog about the first five songs that came up. After my experience this might not happen again:

1. Band: Muse - Album: The Resistance - Song: Uprising: This song has a very popish open which doesnt' say much for a Metal Station. The vocals go from very low to an extremely high pitch in the chorus. Some might say this song is a toe tapper, but thats the best I could come up with. At the end of the song there are gang vocals that just come across as weird and unfocused. Its like they finished the song and said "Wow gang vocals would be cool here," and then just threw them in on top of what they already had. This song was not my cup of tea.

2. Band: Smashing Pumpkins - Album: Zeitgeist - Song: Tarantula: Well this one is going to cause me some heat. Mainly because I have never considered the Pumpkins metal. In fact I never even really considered them that musical. This song does have a great opening, but then walks right into some harmony that actually works against the bass line. I have to admit the guitar lead ins are certainly worth listening to and the instrumentals are amazing, but that damn voice just beats me into the ground.

3. Band: Three Days Grace - Album: Life Starts Now - Song: The Good Life: This is what I've been waiting for. We all know I'm a big Three Days fan and this song is just more reasons why. The new album is excellant and The Good Life is a prime example of Three Days at their best - The quest for happiness through anger. Nice.

4. Band: AC/DC - Album: Highway to Hell - Song: Touch too Much: Now were talking. Bon's voice on something other then a Behind the Music special. This song is classic AC/DC from that era, tried and true drum beat with slow vocals and a lead into a heavier chorus. As an AC/DC fan I ask people to listen to this gem because it lays to rest the notion that all of their songs sound exactly the same.

5. Band: City and Color - Album: Bring Me Your Love - Song: Waiting: Is that a tamborine? I must have bumped the remote by accident. Sounds like somebody has the lead singer by the balls. Man this is bad! The drummer must be pissed that tamborine is harder then his bass. I can't handle much more of this. The chorus blended in so bad I didn't realize it was the chorus. 2:07 mark, I'm done. That song just killed about two million of my brain cells.

Well now that I typed it out that was kind of fun and tested my dedication to the site. Let me know if you want to see it again.
